Assignment 5.6
I chose the topic Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity. I have a step daughter that is quite large and I was always on her for her weight. I was a very very thin child, all the way through high school, so her weight is alarming health wise to me. Once I stepped into the high school and started looking around I realized that there are LOADS of children who are overweight.
I then had to ask why and how did these kids get this way. I realize how adults get that way. As an adult I have the choice to put whatever I want in my mouth, and exercise as little as I want to. As a child, I had to eat what I was given, we weren't allowed to have sugar, candy, soda....we thought it was a major treat to have homemade cookies once in a while, and we were glad there was six kids in the family, that meant cake at least six times a year. AND we respected the guideline my parents set. Never in my mind would I have bought a soda out of the vending machine when I had been told not to, despite the fact that there would have been no way for my parents to KNOW I had had one. Of course, this all changed when I became a senior in high school and started drinking diet soda.
Anyway, I thought some research into this topic would be warranted. As I mentioned in my paper, I feel it's every one's responsibility to cut down on childhood obesity. Childhood obesity will lead to adult obesity, which will put greater stress on the health industry....until we find the "miracle fat pill." Which I am totally against. It just seems wrong to take a pill and continue to eat in a less than healthy manner. Does that make any sense? If they do make the wonder drug, I hope they make the side effects terrible if you eat the fat and high sugar foods.
I think I have strayed from the intended purpose of this assignment. I will restate myself: childhood obesity is on an alarming rise, it is every ones responsibility to become educated in proper nutrition and exercise, and it is the governments responsibility to provide safe communities and reasonably food prices.

Assignment 4.4
I think I'll write an instructional paper on how to interview successfully. It will include items such as proper dress, research the company you are interviewing for, adjusting your resume to the position you desire and other components.
Assignment 4.2
I was out of town for the last week or so. For some reason I thought I'd be able to lots of homework while I was gone. However, I got absolutely none done, despite numerous attempts at starting. I have given my project some thought though. I will get online to see if there are distance programs I can attend. I will also see what APU offers. Currently I'll need a school with flexible scheduling as I am staying home with the girls, and my husband works full time. That will be one of my primary points on my criteria list. Actually, that's probably the only point on my criteria list at this moment. The list will grow as I research and see what else is out there. Then I can decide what my full criteria list is and what facility will fit my needs best.
Assignment 4.1
I was not aware of the SQ4R method. However, I seem to loosely follow it in my studies anyway. I do not care for the Diagonal mapping. It is too visually busy for me. I like things to be neat and tidy. With Diagonal it appears to me that there are words all over the page. Again, to busy for me. I'll keep using the SQ4R method.
Assignment 3.8
I believe that Logos would be the most effective rhetoric method to persuade a supervisor to choose my team to conduct the new sales campaign at the new car dealership.
I would use our outstanding sales numbers from previous sales campaigns. I would show her that we have a proven track record. She could clearly see that we have great communication and relationships.
Basically I would state the facts, give her some of our personal and group success stories. She would reason inductively that we were the best group for the job based on evidence and her observations of our team.
I think the Pathos method would have the least impact in this situation. A sales team is put together to increase sales. It's only job is to sell product and make money. There are emotions when selling/buying product. However, in this particular case, the group is trying to sell themselves to their own supervisor. She shouldn't have emotions related to the selection. She should consider first which team can and will make the most amount of money, or be the most productive at this event.
The Ethos approach could be effective in this instance. It would be combined with the Logos approach. It would be logical to include things like,"You can count on Bob to be on time with the visual aids. He has never let me down before." or "Remember the last sales campaign that Tim's group lead? It was a disaster."
